Piazza Federico Secondo di Svevia (or Pasta Plaza), Bari, Italy

Greetings from sunny, but chilly 44-58 degree Bari Italy!

Beautiful Tuscany

We left Tuscany early on Saturday to make the long drive down the middle of Italy and then over to the Adriatic Sea side of Italy to Bari.

It is an eight hour drive on Toll roads to get to Bari (€60) from Tuscany! As we discussed earlier, Italian roads are “Under Construction” so quite a long journey!

Puglia region of Italy

You’re wondering “Where the heck is Bari”?

Bari is the chief economic center of Southern Italy. It’s metro population is 380,000 and is a huge port city. 1.5 million in the region.

Sunrise from our Airbnb, quite the Urban setting!
Our home the next 5 days, quite nice.
Lovely patio!

Bari has a long, long history, with history going back 5,000 years. It was a longtime Greek colony before the Romans and played a large role for the Allies in WW11.

After parking the Trusty Citroen in a parking garage, because street parking is crazy here.

Double park, sure, park in walkways, ok, why not park in the crosswalk 🫣

Very few motor scooters here, but it is the Smart car capital of Italy!

Ok, bright and early, walking tour time says TGC!

Bari is very flat and mostly concrete stones, so I think I’m in trouble 😬

First stop, bakery!

Fantastic bakery’s in town, most of them are Bars ( coffee shops) bakeries and what are called Focaccerias, where they sell various food from the region! Fantastic food scene!

Focacceria’s offering!

Moving on says TGC…

Statua di Nicole Puccini
Palazzo del Governo
Castello Normanno-Svevo
Pasta Plaza
Stadia delle Orecchiette (pasta street)
Beautiful pasta, and delicious!
Making the pasta!
Cattedrale di San Maria Assunta
One of the many streets of old town.
Typical street.
Piazza Mercantile…My View on the Adventure, following TGC😜
Lungomare (seafront) Imperatore Augusto
Piazza Mercantile
Lined out the door for Foccacia 😜

TGC was brutal, 22,000 steps on day one😅

Time for some of that Focaccia 😜

Day Two!

Corso Vittorio Emanuele 11

Ok, says TGC, easy day yesterday, driving, walking, picnicking in the park as we toured Alberobello and Trulli. More on that later. Time to walk! Here we go!

We’re staying right down next to Old Town Bari, so off we go to see if we’ve missed anything on our previous tours!

Fancy food store!

Bari is a great food city, very, very good food at restaurants and local food stores, no procrastinating says TGC, walk🙄

Teatro Margherita , Bari’s theatre.
Banca d’Italia
Teatro Petruzzelli

Walking along the waterfront now, not the most spectacular waterfront we’ve ever seen!

Adriatic Sea
Not many fishing boats!
Octopus anyone!
All we need is The Skipper and Gilligan! 😜
Back inland, through Old Town! Quite beautiful!
Alleyways, every apartment is full of people and it’s quite entertaining to listen to the banter on the streets and across the alleyways as people interact 😉
Local green grocers, with small shops in the alleys!
Beauty everywhere!
Now that’s the real deal!
Don’t know about you, but I’m hungry!
Focaccia on one side, Bakery on the other! It’s like paradise 😉
The bread they make here is called Pugliese bread! It’s crispy with a very crunchy crust and soft crumb. It’s one of my favorite breads in the world!
Make your choice 🤔
Tomato please, crispy, cheesy and salty, frankly delicious 😎
That slice didn’t even make it home!
Now that’s a lunch for the Patio on a beautiful day!

TGC says take the afternoon off, we need to get caught up on paperwork and laundry and I might Nap😉

Bari is a beautiful city, we heard very little English! If you want the real Italy, it’s here in Bari✔️

Day two of some driving trips tomorrow, stay tuned! Ciao!
